Gonna go refill my coffee cup now…

This is an older article, but nobody comes to my site for news hehe.  It’s an interesting article by someone who seems to know the difference between observational and clinical studies, about a topic I care a lot about: coffee.

Um, I just passed 50 reviews on Amazon…

About 3 hrs ago, I passed 50 reviews on Amazon. I’m absolutely staggered by this. What possesses otherwise sensible people to pick up my book, read it, and then tie their name to it publicly? Who knows what government watch lists you people are on now!

To all of you who’ve read my first novel: you have no idea how incredible it makes me feel. The fact that so many of you seem to have enjoyed it is even more incredible.

Thanks

Greek Fire and Other Burning Tales

I thought this was an interesting way to review an anthology, though it probably isn’t “unusual.”
Disclaimer: I’m neither endorsing nor outdorsing this 35 page collection of flash fiction. I’m simply highlighting an interesting review 🙂

Greek Fire and Other Burning Tales By: Dennis B. Boyer

Plot:

As each one is struck, a new, burning tale is ignited.

Although these seven very-short stories, or works of “flash fiction”, are quick to extinguish, they are still highly incendiary— and quite capable of scorching.

A military commander considers the incredible claims of his enemy. Today is the day they’ve promised to unleash their doomsday weapon and rain fire from the sky.

A firefighter pulls an orphan out of a building consumed by flames. She alone has been spared among the tragic loss of young life. But there is something strange about this emotionally distant girl who refuses to speak…

When his two adult sons find nothing but a pile of ashes upon their elderly father’s favorite recliner, they are forced to consider the strange events of Christmas Eve. One is convinced that this is a rare case of…

Well it finally happened: I was recognized in public

I’m not sure how to say this without sounding like I’m bragging, but yesterday, while I was out in public at the mall, I was recognized by a reader.

Here’s how it went down:
I was standing in line at one of the little Starbucks stands, when out of nowhere, a woman came up with a Barnes & Noble bag in her hand.
“Excuse me,” she said, a bit shyly. “Your name isn’t John L. Monk, is it?”
I smiled and said, “Why yes, it is. You know, this is the first time I’ve been recog–”
It’s me, Jill!” she said. “We went to high school together!”

So hang in there, fellow authors. If it happened to me, it can happen to you.

Unhinged
By Logan Keys

“Logan Keys takes you on a guided tour of the dark recesses of the human psyche. The writing is sharp and compelling, prodding you forward when your instincts are screaming “turn back” Author J Mathew Mckern
“Unhinged is a bleak foray into the Stygian depths of humanity’s nastier aspects.” Jim Adams

An assemblage of pure madness, Unhinged is a miasma quick fix for the horror junkie. Visceral and vicious, each morsel more disturbing than the last. Guaranteed to hijack your mind, these lost souls will stay with you long after the last page has been turned.

Free promo update: #39 in top 100 Free, #1 Paranormal and Urban, #1 Dark Fantasy

Despite not doing any advance placement with the various free promo sites out there, my free promo was wildly successful. One of the reasons  was that Pixel of Ink picked me up, as did onehundredfreebooks.com and a few other sites — without my asking them.  Very nice of them, big help.  I also got a lot of support from folks on Facebook and Twitter, so big thanks to everyone there.

The promo expires tomorrow morning sometime around 4am.  Hopefully “Kick” can maintain steam until then.

Here’s a quick snapshot of where it’s at now:
