The “To Be Read” Podcast is reading my book

So there’s a cool podcast I started listening to a couple of months ago, after first hearing about it on Kboards. The reason I like it is because it’s presented by authors like me, talking about the books they love. More than that, they talk about books I’ve actually read before. Authors I admire, like Larry Niven, Patrick Rothfuss, Neil Gaiman, and Jim Butcher, as well as lots of indie authors I’m interested in reading. Because of this show, I’d put “The Martian” on my own personal To Be Read list. So what a joy when I found out today that Patrick Stemp is reading my book. He’s currently 1/4 in and seems to like it — and that’s good enough for me! Haha, I’ll take it. Tune in next week for when he passes judgment on the rest of the book (queue the ominous music).

Special thanks to host Jamie Maltman for having downloaded it and mentioning it to Patrick.

Hearing people talk about your book is probably the greatest thing about being an author, short of buying my own island with robot attack dogs. If you get a chance, why not check out the podcast?  They have a backlist of 28 episodes. Why not get started today so you’re caught up for episode 30 next week? 🙂

I knew him when: a mutual fan is on a TV show tonight

Witness the acting glory that is Steve Phelan, a mutual fan who read my book back in March.  He plays Detective Lane Youmans on Investigation Discovery’s MURDER BOOK: 9pm E/P, 8pm C.

** UPDATE: I just finished watching the episode. What a wonderful performance. This guy has a face for cop roles. He totally nailed the role.

Reblog: Year End Review

What a great list. I should come up with one of my own.

kristinemckinley's avatarK. McKinley's Blog

Chuck Wendig posted a year end review with a list of ten things that you had to pick your absolute favorite of. There could be only one and he made that very clear. I like posting my favorite things, so here is my 2014 year end review:

1) Favorite novel of the year?

Gun to my head I choose Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews. It was a difficult decision and came down to that or Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell or Night Broken by Patricia Briggs. I haven’t yet read Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews or it could have been that.

2) Favorite non-fiction book of the year?

The Sh!t No One Tells You: A Guide to Surviving Your Baby’s First Year by Dawn Dais

I did not read as much non-fiction this year as I should have. I’ve got a stack of non-fiction I keep meaning to…

Here is my interview with John L. Monk

An interview I had at Authors Interviews. If you’re curious about the salacious details, have a look 🙂

Name: John L. Monk

Age: 43

Where are you from: Virginia

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc:

I’m the oldest of two, with a younger sister. I barely graduated high school, then went to college and made the Dean’s List every year. I can’t do anything unless I’m interested in it, have a dog in the race, etc. Anthropology was a good major for a guy like me—interesting and just about useless at the same time. It gave me the veneer of intelligence without the threat of anyone expecting much from me. Thank goodness I had computer skills to fall back on.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?

Well, my first book “Kick” is now permafree – meaning I’m giving it away to one and all for the bargain price of nothin’.  And I’m loving it. I get anywhere from 50-100 downloads a day, on…

Word count, just barely: 7000

ralphie_fights

I’m the one who knocks!

This week was hell from a word count perspective. I actually wrote more than 7000, but ended up backspacing away a good 1000 words because it wasn’t what I wanted. Also, Christmas is coming up, and I’ve had to do some other things besides writing. So finding the time to write got a little harder last week. That said, in all honesty: I still had way more time to write than you can possibly imagine. But I seem to need a lot more time to come up with anything good. Witness the 1000+ deleted words.  Still, Scut’s down for the count as of last night.

Repost: Interview with Tom Covenent

Cool author interview site I found.

Name Tom Covenent

Age 55

Where are you from

London, England

A little about yourself `ie your education Family life etc

I’m an Englishman, born and bred. My parents were divorced when I was a youngster and I spent a few years living between the two of them as they tried to build new lives from the devastated landscape of their marriage! I have several siblings but don’t have anything much to do with them as we were spread far and wide.

I left formal education as soon as I was allowed and got myself a job. My employer sent me to college where I learned about computers and technology at a time when nobody had a computer. I learned to get drunk and have fun, going to rock concerts (I saw Frank Zappa live!).

Basically I enjoyed the pleasures of life as often and as much as I could…eventually…

Awesome Indie Lindy Moone is in it too, as well as awesome indie reviewer Carol Kean.

Tangles and Thorns by P.T. Hylton (Awesome Indie Alert)

tangles_and_thornsAwesome Indie P.T. Hylton has released Tangles and Thorns, a fantasy novella. I’ve read it and found it fascinating–particularly the very P.T. magic system he designed. Anyone who’s read Regulation 19 will know what I mean by “very P.T.”

Glides move objects in a blur. Tangles protect, and balms cure. Shimmers change the way we see, and thorns can hurt your enemy.

Assassin Zane Halloway has been hired to kill Irving Farns, a reclusive genius whose innovations brought about a golden age of magic. Zane and his apprentice will need to infiltrate the mysterious Abditus Society and find a way to assassinate the world’s leading expert in protective magic.

THORNS AND TANGLES introduces a world of magic, mystery, and assassins. This is the first in a series of novellas, but it also stands alone as a complete story.
