Book Giveaway! Ta-da!.

I’ve read it, it’s got the John L. Monk squeal of approval 🙂

Random stuff

  • Someone recommended I read anything by Gene Wolfe — anyone got a good first read?
  • I recommend to anyone: watch the Hallmark Channel’s “Jesse Stone” movies.  Honestly, they’re amazing.  Tom Selleck rocked it.  Can’t say I’m a fan of the cheesy made-for-TV music though, but it’s music, you ignore it.  The acting was top notch.
  • I got compared to Dean Koontz today in a review — made my day.
  • I’m wondering if my “bulletted” list could be viewed as a threat?

So there you go 🙂

Best 1979 bicycle movie evah’!

My wife suggested we watch this tonight.  I was absolutely stunned.  Some of the acting was a little wooden, and I saw where the plot was going a million miles away, but it was a fun, happy, cheerful, giggly ride all the way to the end.  If you haven’t seen it yet, there’s some snappy dialogue in this movie.  Real good back-and-forth stuff, especially between the mom/dad/son (main character).  After it ended and I sat there gushing over it, my wife leans over and tells me, “It got an Oscar for best writing and screenplay written directly for the screen.”  She then told me it was nominated for Best Picture.  How about that?

The thing I love most about being published is…

Every day brings new surprises. Occasionally, readers contact me and tell me how much they liked the book, and these are my favorite surprises. Sometimes I get reviews on Goodreads.  Sometimes on Amazon.com.  Today, I went to Amazon.co.uk for no other reason than to see Kick selling in pounds-sterling (answer: £ 1.91).  But what I found there was just the tip of the iceberg: 3 reviews I didn’t know about, each 5 stars.  They’d come in over the last couple of days, following my free promotion.  It’s the neatest thing in the world to see people in another country reading and enjoying my writing.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll be Big in Japan?

(Repost) Trenbolone: A brief explanation of the popular steroid

One of my readers left a nice comment on my last post and I followed along to his site. It’s a pretty interesting site, not about fiction or writing or art or anything.  But I found myself reading more than a few of his blog posts and followed his links to some good articles.

Here’s his latest.  I liked it because I learned a little bit of science on top of the “don’t do steroids” advice:

Ebookdealofday – talk about cool…

So, for my free promotion, I sent my book out to a number of sites, letting them know what days my book would be available for free, and big thanks to those that posted it.  But the big winner goes to “Ebookdealofday” for modifying the cover picture to look like a cool book with a nice background:

Cold Comfort, by Carol Ervin — Now available on Kindle

If you haven’t read “Girl on the Mountain”, you’re missing out. I totally just got the follow-up (which stands on its own), and that makes me a little bit happier than most people.  This will cause people to like me more when they see me walking down the hall at work, which will lead to favorable attitudes towards me and eventually pay raises, bonuses, comp days and other great things.

Yay!

Cold Comfort published on Kindle.

Escape from Berlin: When Freedom Mattered More Than Life Itself

Sometimes it’s important to remember that many of the best stories aren’t fiction:

The Cast of My Novel!

Carol Ervin’s post, below, is wonderful.  I actually read her book and loved it (disclaimer: she also read my book and reviewed it on Goodreads).

The cast of characters she lays out here are absolutely perfect.  Very clever post.

Have a look:

The new book cover is in!

I like it.  The other one was nice, but I worked on this one with the designer, the wonderful Damonza. It’s percolating over on Amazon now, no idea when it’ll go live.  Move your eyes a few inches to the right, there’s Dan, peeking at you.

Cheers

*update*

As of 1:06pm EST, the cover is on the sales page but isn’t showing up in the “look inside” feature, and doesn’t arrive with the purchase.  I’ll add another update once it’s fixed.

** another update **

Ok, supposedly if you buy a book you’ve bought before, you see the old cover…or something.  ie., people ‘should’ be getting the new cover.  Apparently, the new cover might not appear in the look inside feature for a week.
